The Denver International Airport (DIA) is the 20th-busiest airport in the world, and the fifth busiest airport in the United States. DIA strives to be America’s favorite connecting hub where air travelers will experience a more pleasant and reliable airport experience. If you’re flying out of DIA, you may have questions regarding things like baggage claim, baggage drop, and bringing a pet with you on your travels. Let’s take a look at some important DIA information you should know before you take off for your trip.
DIA Baggage Claim
The baggage claim area at the Denver International Airport is located in the Jeppesen Terminal. This can be found on Level 5, on both the east and west sides of the terminal. Here, you’ll also be able to find ground transportation, where passengers can be picked up by limos, shuttles, buses, and taxis. The baggage claim carousels are all numbered (from 1 to 19), running along both sides of the Jeppesen Terminal. You’ll be able to find carousels 1 through 9 on the east side and carousels 10 through 19 on the west side. If you’re not sure what number carousel your baggage will be delivered to, look for baggage information on the display monitors throughout the airport.
Dropped Baggage At DIA
To make it more convenient for air travelers, DIA offers free bag drop and check-in services at three places: The Transit Center, Pikes Peak shuttle lot, and the Mt. Elbert shuttle lot. These airport services are primarily for domestic flights on airlines like Southwest, Delta, American Airlines, and United. If you are traveling to an international destination, you will not be eligible for bag drop. A few things to keep in mind:
- The Transit Center bag drop is located on Level 1, below The Westin hotel. It is open from 6am to 6pm.
- The drive-up bag drops at the Pikes Peak and Mt. Elbert shuttle lots allow you to drop your bag off from the comfort of your car. Hours of operation are Saturday through Thursday, 2am to 4pm, and Friday from 2am to 7pm.
- If you want to use the bag drop service, you’ll need to drop your bag at least 90 minutes before your flight takes off.
- Airline bag fees may still apply and can be paid at all bag drop locations.
- If you are traveling with an infant, you will need to go to the ticket counter to acquire your child’s boarding pass.
Personal Charging Stations
When your laptop, cell phone, or tablet runs out of battery, it can feel like the whole world is falling down around you. Luckily, DIA offers hundreds of easily-accessible electrical outlets throughout the Jeppesen Terminal, as well as in all three concourses. This means you’ll always have a fresh dose of electricity when you need it!
Canine Airport Therapy Squad (CATS)
Don’t be surprised if you find canine airport therapy dogs while you’re at the Denver International Airport. The CATS squad consists of 100 dogs and one cat, representing more than 40 unique breeds. DIA is proud to have the largest airport therapy animal program in the country. You’ll find these furry friends throughout the airport with blue plaid jackets that say “Pet Me.” Feel free to hug, pet, and take pictures with this affectionate crew!
Children Flying Solo
If you have a young child who will be flying solo, you’ll need to check with your airline for rules and regulations. If you’d like to drop off or meet a child at a gate, you’ll need to obtain a security clearance document from the airline. You can get this at the check-in counter.
Lost And Found
If you happen to lose something during your time at DIA, you’ll want to head to the Lost and Found, which can be found in the Jeppesen Terminal. Located on Level 5 (near International Arrivals), you can file a claim for your lost item in person or online. The Lost and Found office is open Monday through Friday from 8am to 7:30pm, and Saturday and Sunday from 8am to 6pm.
If you left a jacket or cell phone in a shop, restaurant, or any other business within DIA, you’ll want to contact the business directly to inquire about your lost items. If your personal items have been lost in-flight or at the airline gate, you’ll need to reach out to the airline to report your lost items or luggage.
Water Bottle Filling Stations
The Denver International Airport offers convenient water bottle filling stations in each concourse (A, B, and C). You’ll find four filling stations at each concourse, so all you have to do is bring an empty water bottle to get your fix of H2O. In the first year of operation, the DIA water bottle filling stations filled over 600,000 half-liter plastic bottles.
Mail Services
Need to mail a last minute electric bill or a letter to a family member? You’ll be happy to know that the Denver International Airport offers US postal services and drop boxes throughout the airport. Mail drop boxes can be found on the center core of A Gates, B Gates, C Gates, as well as on Level 6 of the northwest Jeppesen terminal. There is also a FedEx drop box in the B and C concourses on the mezzanine level, as well as a UPS drop box in the Be and C gates.
Nursing Rooms
DIA offers mothers a comfortable and private place to retreat to when baby calls. All three nursing rooms can be found post-security at the center of each concourse (A, B, and C). Mothers can nurse and pump in these rooms at their convenience. Nursing rooms are open 24/7 and feature comfortable seating, power outlets, a sink, and a changing table.
Pet Relief Areas
If you’re traveling with a furry four-legged friend, you’ll be pleased to know that the Denver International Airport offers pet relief areas in each concourse, as well as one outside the Jeppesen Terminal. These areas feature artificial turf flooring that includes a drainage system, so your pet can relieve himself or herself in a comfortable and welcoming area. The airport asks that pet owners clean up after their animals, so you’ll find bags and disposable containers in these areas.
Smoking At The Airport
While DIA is a non-smoking facility, there are some designated smoking locations outside of the Jeppesen Terminal. It’s important to note that there are no smoking areas once you go through security and arrive at your gate, so if you need to get your nicotine fix, you should do it before heading to security. You’ll find these smoking areas:
- In the West Side of Jeppesen Terminal
- Level 4 Doors 400 and 416
- Level 5 – Doors 500 and 516
- Level 6 – Door 616
- In the East Side of Jeppesen Terminal
- Level 4 – Doors 401 and 417
- Level 5 – Doors 501 and 517
- Level 6 – Doors 601 and 617
Free Wi-Fi
There is free wireless internet access throughout the Denver International Airport. To get online, simply:
- Ensure that your wireless connection is turned on
- Find the connect name, “-DEN Airport Free Wifi” and connect to it
- You are now connected to the internet!
