How to Survive International Flights

How to Survive International Flights

After months of planning and anticipation, it makes sense that you’re eager to arrive at your final destination. The only thing left to survive is the international flight. Even if you travel often, international flights are not for the faint of heart. If this is the first time that you’ve had to take an international flight, today’s blog is for you. Here are a few tips to ensure that you survive this long flight and make it to your long awaited vacation.

Opt for the Exit Row

The seat that you get assigned makes a difference in how enjoyable the flight is, even when the flight isn’t extremely long. This is even more so the case when you are going to be flying for long periods of time. For that reason, you should always do your best to try and get an exit row seat.

While these seats may have some additional responsibilities, they definitely offer you a little bit more leg room. If this isn’t something that you want to deal with during your flight, consider paying a little bit extra for premium seating if it’s available during your flight. The more room that you have, the more comfortable you are likely to be throughout the flight.

Check-In Early

Again, this is a tip that comes in handy with any flight, but can also make a big difference when flying internationally. Not only does early check-in provide you with a less stressful day of travel, but it can sometimes affect your seats on the flight. If you check-in early you may be able to board the flight earlier and in turn get a better seat.

Look Into Sleep Aids

Depending on the time of your flight, you may want to consider a sleep aid that can make the flight a little bit more bearable. While it would be absolutely ideal for these longer flights to take place during the night so that you can wake up refreshed and ready to go, jet lag is one of the many factors that you have to take into consideration.

Rather than stay away for the entirety of your flight only to end up in your final destination too tired to head out and start your adventure, invest in a sleep aid that can help you catch up on some shut-eye and save up some energy for everything that this vacation is going to bring on.

If you aren’t able to purchase a seat with extra space, a sleep aid could also be the one thing that helps you get comfortable in some of the smaller seats on a plane. Or, if you have a hard time overcoming the motion of the plane and can easily get motion sickness, taking a sleep aid could help you avoid that altogether.

Get a Neck Pillow

Now that we’ve talked about sleeping on the flight, let’s touch on one of the accessories that you’re definitely going to want to invest in if you’re going to be on the plane for extended amounts of time: a neck pillow. With as little room as some flights offer, the one thing that you want to make sure of is that you’re able to sleep without waking up with a pain in your neck.

More often than not, neck pillows are relatively affordable to purchase and will be used on more than one occasion. That being said, you can definitely count on it being a purchase that you use time and time again when traveling.
