Best Zoos Across the United States

Best Zoos Across the United States

Now that temperatures are starting to get a bit more bearable, it only makes sense that we spend some more time outdoors. One of our favorite ways to get out and enjoy the cooler weather is by stopping at the zoo. Here in Denver, there is an absolutely fantastic zoo that provides the animals with plenty of space and guests with endless animals to visit with. Whether you’re an animal lover or simply someone with children who loves visiting the zoo, it’s always nice to know where the great zoos are.

In today’s blog post, we are going to touch on a few of the best zoos in the country. Let’s dive right in.

San Diego Zoo — California

You’ve probably heard about the San Diego Zoo, given that it is not only one of the very best zoos in the country, but also one of the largest. With more than 3,500 animals on its grounds, you can count on a day that is spent looking at countless animals. It’s difficult to get bored while you’re visiting the San Diego Zoo given that there are over 650 different species that you can visit with when you pay to get in.

One of the many reasons that this zoo is so popular is because of its open-air concept that recreates the types of habitats that these animals would live in out in the wild. This design allows you to see animals interacting as they would in their natural habitat. Aside from that, this layout can make guests feel like they are enjoying a safari instead of a walk through the zoo.

Henry Doorly Zoo — Nebraska

Nebraska isn’t exactly the first place that comes to mind when thinking about exotic animals, which is surprising given that they have the second-best zoo in the US. Located in Omaha, Nebraska, the Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium is dedicated to conservation, research, recreation, and education. Covering over 130 acres of land, it’s no wonder that this zoo is recognized as one of the very best in the country.

There are countless exhibits that allow visitors to get up close with animals from across the globe. Aside from the many exhibits that you can stop and enjoy, there is also an aquarium that you can get lost in.

Columbus Zoo & Aquarium — Ohio

Yet another state that might not come to mind when you think about exotic animals, Ohio houses one of the largest zoos in the world. With over 10,000 animals in the zoo, there are never enough hours in the day to really see everything that this zoo and aquarium have to offer. The zoo itself covers 580 acres of land — a pretty impressive amount!

The Columbus Zoo is determined to help conserve wildlife, and they start by ensuring the animals in their zoo are safe and in a habitat where they can thrive. It’s easy to see this in the overall layout that the Columbus Zoo has continued to work on since its inception.

Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden — Ohio

The Columbus Zoo isn’t the only zoo in Ohio to make the list of great zoos in America. The Cincinnati Zoo is yet another zoo in Ohio that is entirely worth visiting. This zoo is not only one of the best zoos, but it is also the second oldest zoo in the country. On the smaller size, the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden cover 74 acres of land. Even so, there are still plenty of animals and plants that you can enjoy when you decide to visit.

The Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden is yet another location that is dedicated to conservation while still focusing on knowledge and adventure. You can see their efforts in preserving nature when you walk through their zoo and garden where they work tirelessly to ensure all animals and plants thrive.

Saint Louis Zoo — Missouri

Yet another zoo that isn’t exactly the largest, but certainly one worth visiting: the Saint Louis Zoo. Covering roughly 89 acres, this zoo has been around for over 100 years. In that time, it has been recognized as a zoo that is leading the way towards research, conservation, and education. That being said, there is no shortage of things to see and do when you decide to stop by the Saint Louis Zoo. From animal attractions and exhibits to shopping and dining, this zoo has you covered.

Aside from providing guests with 90 acres of incredible animal exhibits, there are various events that showcase particular animals or experiences. For example, Shark Week is a big hit at the Saint Louis Zoo, and for obvious reasons. It’s definitely worth looking into the events that they’re going to be hosting before you schedule your visit.
